New 2017 Jeep Wrangler at Fitzgerald Auto Mall for Lexington Park, MD

Is there a more purpose-built off-roading machine with as much character and history than the Jeep Wrangler? It's hard to argue the other side if you think so, but either way the Wrangler vehicle's influence is very strong. This year, the Wrangler brings that tradition of sturdiness and a few new features are added to the lineup. For the 2017 Wrangler, Jeep has added new available LED headlights, foglights, and a Cold Weather package that has heated seats, a remote start, and all-weather floor mats.

Under the Wrangler's Hood

Every 2017 Jeep Wrangler has a 3.6-liter V6 engine that manufactures 285 horsepower and cranks out 260 lb-ft of torque. This Jeep comes standard with four-wheel drive and contains both high- and low-range gearing. A 6-speed manual with hill start assist is standard, while there is also an available 5-speed automatic transmission with hill start assist and hill descent control. The Rubicon presents intentionally short gearing and a refined transfer case with a low crawl ratio. Towing capacity is at a maximum of 2,000-lbs for the Wrangler (3,500-lbs for the Unlimited). In Edmunds testing, a Wrangler with a manual went from zero to 60 mph in a quick 6.9 seconds, plus, off-road, the Wrangler is available with 3.21, 3.73 or 4.10 gear ratios depending on model. That's a truly difficult to beat combo of capabilities!

Design of Jeep Wrangler

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler can be bought in two body types: the 2-door, 4-passenger Wrangler and the Wrangler Unlimited with its 4-doors and 5-passenger seating. For the purposes of this article, the Unlimited version will only be touched on lightly. All models are available with a soft top or a body-colored hardtop (or a black hardtop). The Wrangler is available in 4 main models- Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon- with other, alternate offshoots that are based on those trims. The Sport model has 16-inch steel wheels, skid plates, a fold-down windshield, hand-operated mirrors and locks, tow hooks, foglights, on/off-road tires, full metal doors with manual windows, a tilt-only steering wheel, a collapsible, tumble-forward seat in the back, a full-size spare tire, removable doors, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, cloth upholstery, and an 8-speaker audio system with a CD player and an aux audio jack. The Sahara adds 18-inch alloy wheels, the Power Convenience Group items, automatic LED headlights, hood insulation for reduced noise, LED foglights, additional painted exterior body panels and trim, air-conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and more. The Rubicon version has a lot of the above-mentioned features, plus adds 17-inch alloy wheels, rock rails, unique tires, a heavy-duty Dana 44 axle on both axles, an electronically disconnecting front sway bar, and a whole list full of other cool stuff! In the cabin, there are less bells and whistles because Jeep knows owners want to get down to the undistracted business of mudding and rock-climbing, but there are some choice essentials, like air-conditioning, an outlet (115-volt), a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and satellite radio. The Unlimited model gets a bigger gas tank, and a 60/40-split folding, tumble-forward seat (and has the 4 doors, don't forget!).

Let's be honest, most people who want this vehicle get it for its unparalleled versatility out in the wild and on steep inclines, places where drivers need massive articulation to get past boulders and other big things in the way. That said, there is still safety built-in directly to this vehicle for normal riding around the places most other cars also go. All 2017 Wranglers have as standard front airbags, antilock brakes, and both traction and stability control. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested this vehicle and awarded the two-door Wrangler its highest rating of 'Good' in the moderate-overlap front-impact test. Front side airbags are also optional for every model, except the Sport trim. You truly must sit in one of these to get the feel of it, much like riding a bicycle. I suggest coming down here to Fitzgerald Auto Mall Lexington Park at your next best convenience!
