Fitzgerald Auto Mall Lexington Park Respects Those Who Served

Memorial Day is coming up and we wanted to take the time to speak on what it means to us. Every year, on the last Monday of May, we take time to honor those who have fought for and died for our country. Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day began after the Civil War and became a federally recognized holiday in 1971.

A Brief History

The Civil War is still recognized as one of America's deadliest wars with battles in Shiloh and Gettysburg. This war ended in the spring of 1865 and Americans began holding tributes to honor those that had fallen. These tributes grew more and more common in the springtime and consisted of decorating graves with flowers and holding gatherings to say prayers. Though many different cities and towns around the east began these traditions, Waterloo, New York became the official birthplace of the Memorial Day holiday. This happened in 1966.

Every year on Memorial Day at 3:00 p.m., a moment of silence and remembrance is held across the U.S. We at Fitzgerald Auto Mall Lexington Park, located in Lexington, just a short drive form Lusby, Prince Frederick, and Waldorf, want to extend our thanks to those veterans who have served to maintain the freedom of our country. We appreciate all that you have done, and are grateful that we can enjoy certain freedoms as a result.

Memorial Day is an unofficial start to the summer season, and we at Fitzgerald Auto Mall Lexington Park could not be more excited to kick off a great season. We have an excellent selection of vehicles and new inventory for you to take a look at. We welcome you into our showroom and look forward to answering any questions you may have. Happy Memorial Day!
